Reduce Effects of Chemotherapy

Most Cancer Patients Experience Fewer Side Effects
In two trials with patients receiving chemotherapy for advanced colon, pancreatic or rectal cancer, NT Factor with a multivitamin and antioxidant mixture (Propax with NT Factor) significantly reduced treatment side effects for the majority of people. In both trials, patients took the nutritional supplement or a placebo for 5 to 7 days prior to starting chemotherapy.

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 22 people receiving chemotherapy, patients took either a placebo or the nutritional supplement for the first 6 weeks, and were then "crossed over" to either placebo or nutritional supplement for another 6 weeks. Among those who began the supplement at the start of treatment, 64 percent reported an improvement in side effects, including fatigue, nausea, impaired taste, diarrhea, general tiredness, constipation and insomnia. Another 14 percent reported no worsening of side effects.

In this double-blind trial, among the group that started on a placebo and switched to the nutritional supplement after 6 weeks, 63 percent reported an improvement in symptoms, including nausea, impaired taste, tiredness, appetite, sick feeling and sad feeling. Patients who took a placebo for the first 6 weeks and then switched to the nutritional supplement showed a greater improvement in side effects.

In another study, a 3-month open-label trial of the nutritional supplement among 16 cancer patients, 81 percent reported improvement in fatigue, sense of taste, tiredness, insomnia, overall side effects of chemotherapy and quality of life. Nurses reported a similar percentage of patients showing either improvement or no worsening of symptoms.
